MIHARA is a four-piece band hailing from Sta. Rosa, Laguna. I was pretty impress on how they performed during the Eucalypt tour which was held in Calamba. They have a strong dedication of sharing their beliefs and spreading through songs. The band is included in the first volume of the compilation. Thanks to Jay, the bassist of the group, for having me interviewed him.How you chose the band's name?
“Hare Krsna! Hello there Sheryl! Boogie (guitars) chose the band name and there is no hidden meaning about it. He just feel the word mihara, we also look the meaning of mihara in the dictionary and it says that mihara is a name of a dessert. Haha. In the early years of 2006 I joined the International Society for Krishna Conciousness (ISKCON) a Hare Krsna Movement founded by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the movement explains about practicing Bhakti Yoga (Devotional Service). By that philosophy i found out that the word "hara" is used in the Hare Krsna Maha Mantra: "hare krsna hare krsna, krsna krsna hare hare, hare rama hare rama, rama rama hare hare" by that MIHARA had its own meaning. "Mi" stands for Me or I and "hara" means radharani the external potency of Lord Krsna, if we try to analyze it, the meaning of MIHARA is KRSNA the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Its kinda funny because boogie chose the name of the band which is related to Lord Krsna but he is the only member of the Band who don’t practice Krsna Conciousness. Hehe.”
If you want to describe the band with just a few words to someone who has never heard about it, what would you say?
“Krishnacore or a Hare Krsna Band.”
Could you describe in brief what kind of people is involved in MIHARA?
“I (Jay) play bass. I practice bhakti yoga and I love to serve the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Beda do the vocals, he is tall, dark and handsome. Hehe. He also practices vegetarianism and a very dear devotee of the lord. Boogie is the man! in short boogieman! Hehe. He is the heart and brain of the band! Roblin the drummer also chant the Hare Krsna Maha Mantra. That's all I can say about him. Haha.”
What kind of feelings and reaction is your band and your lyrics supposed to suggest?
“We use our songs to preach and spread the Holy Names of the Lord. The lyrics deal with God Concious lyrics, hardcore & unity.”
What are your band influences?
“We grew up listening to different kinds of genre but the most type of music that caught our attention is hardcore.”
Which tracks will you point out as your favorite ones and why?
“For me Back To Godhead is one of my favorite song because that song shows that we suffer here in the material world, the song tells us to make a move to go back to Him. It’s our chance to break this cycle of life and be with him forever.”
What is the usual way in which you compose songs or write lyrics? Is it a team work?
“It’s a team during arranging songs. We are very open into that. If someone writes a song then be it! Hehe.”
Well, If given the possibility to change something in the world what would it be?
“We want to change the Leaders in the world and replace them with God Conscious Leader, a leader who has a fear for our Lord, a leader who will teach us to serve and love God we are very sure that if this thing happens all people will follow him, all of us will learn how to serve and love God, by that we can find the real happiness that we are looking for, permanent happiness.”
