Interview with Grace Period

Grace Period was formed in September 2006, with an evangelical background of each members. They sing songs of mercy, hope, grace and love. They got their name from a book "What's so amazing About Grace?" by Philip Yancey. The group is composed of siblings and cousins, Manny, Erap, Evan and Doris.

overtune: what made u guys decide to start a band?

GP: We always wanted to be in a band and we have been in different bands since highschool. But the coolest thing about being in a band with your siblings is that you are coming from the same direction creatively. We started out Grace Period to address not only the musical but also the spiritual aspect of our lives.

overtune: What bands were you listening to growing up that influenced your sound as a group?

GP: We are huge fans of New Wave, we grew up listening to Wild Swans,
the Cure, Care, and U2 to name a few. But when 90s came, we discovered Ride, Teenage Fanclub, BMX Bandits, Velocity Girl, etc. We also got acquainted with a lot lot of indiepop stuff like Club 8 and Belle and Sebastian.

...and oh Moms old vinyls. Jim Reeves, Patti Page and BJ Thomas.

overtune: Would you give me atleast 5 bands in your current playlist?
GP:
The Innocence Mission - Now The Day Is Over

Riverside - One
Camera Obscura - Let's get out of this country
Seaside Stars - Stranded Whale
Brooke Fraser - Albertine

overtune: What are your favorite song lyrics?

GP:
You said I know this will hurt, but if I don't break your heart things will just get worse. - Let It All Out by Relient K

Are you the one for me or just a distraction?
I Look the Other Way - Grace Period

You broke the bonds, loosed the chains, carried the cross of my shame - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2

That's my favorite song that you have changed and now it doesn't sound as good because you've taken all the la-las, the parap-papas.. - What's Making You Sad? - Carnival Park

overtune: Okay, here's another question, whats your favorite movie? :D
GP: Back to the Future Trilogy and Lucas. :)

overtune: How have you changed in the past year?
GP: Nothing much, we grew beards, lost hair and big tummies ;P

overtune: What are the things you enjoy doing together, aside from playing music?

GP: We usually hang out to eat and talk about anything: our recent favorite songs, a new band, faith and theology, etc. We also like taking pictures of ourselves.

overtune: Thanks Grace Period! God bless!
