Taking the World BYSTORM

Bystorm hardcore machine Mic (Bass), Crisanto (guitar), Dangie (vox) and Denver (drums) formed their group back in 2003-2004 as a side-project and eventually became full-time. They had numerous shows locally and recently been to Singapore/Malaysia Tour. I am proud of these guys, and I am grateful that they are part of Overtune’s 5th volume. Here’s my interview with Mic.

OTS: hi mic! sorry for super dooper delay of vol5, i decided to stay in Overtune. been super busy with work, anyhoo, vol 5's internet release will be sometime this week. I just need to upload everything. Here’s few questions, im not really good in making interview questions dude. Hehe. We usually start the question, how did u guys come up w/ a name BYSTORM, can u comment on this? :D

M: When we were starting, I thought that the name "The Storm" would be awesome, especially because I love that song from one of my favorite bands ever, Judge. But then Dangie wanted it to be Bystorm as in taking the world by storm, so there.

OTS: Could you describe in brief the people involved in yer band?

M: The band is composed of me, Mic on bass, Dangie on vox, Crisanto on guitars and Denver on drums. We're all pizza loving, hardcore moshing fanatics..

OTS: Would you mention at least 5 records in your playlist?
M:
Verse - Aggression
Conquest for Death - Front Row Tickets to Armaggedon
Burn - Cleanse
Eskapo - Wind of Hell
Extortion - Sick

pretty diverse, huh?
OTS: Interesting man. Howd u guys work on your songs as a team?

M: We start writing songs when me or Cris comes up with one great riff then try to build on that, develop an intro and outro part. maybe throw in some fast and slow parts to complete the mix. Then Dangie tries to fit in the lyrics. and the funniest part, trying to decide the song titles.

OTS: What bands were you listening to growing up that influenced your sound as a band?

M: I guess the bands that have a heavy influence on how Bystorm turned out to be were Integrity, Catharsis, Ringworm, Judge.

OTS: What are the feelings/reaction is your band and your lyrics supposed to suggest?

M: Most of our lyrics deal with personal stuff that we face in our day to day lives, battling inner demons and sharing it with others. If someone can relate to the stuff that we sing about, then that would be awesome.

OTS: What do you hope to bring to the crowd when playing in shows?

M: Just the raw energy of everything that comes in a hardcore show, whether it would be singing along, jumping 10 feet in the air, dancing hard and of course the message that comes in the songs.

OTS: any future recordings?

M: we're currently writing new material for a future worldwide holy terror compilation and maybe a split with another band. Or a full-length if the materials are enough.

OTS: its great knowing u guys exists in local ug shows, something to look forward to, any last words?

M: Thanks Sheng for taking the time to interview us. Don't give up on this project. I'd like to say hi and thanks to everyone who came out and supported the MAGRUDERGRIND, CRUX and DRIVEN FEAR tours the last month or so. Watch out for MY DISCO, CONQUEST FOR DEATH (ex-What Happens Next?) and SECOND COMBAT (Malaysia Straightedge!) coming soon! And oh yeah, check out the four-way split between KILL RATIO, LA GRITA, ESKAPO and ISTUKAS OVER DISNEYLAND and the RICHARD COLLIER full-length CD coming soon from Take-4!

OTS: thanks mic and the rest of Bystorm! keep it up! cheers!
