No Peace in Silence (HC/Bulacan)

Another band that caught my attention in the scene is No Peace in Silence. They are 4-piece HC band hailing from Pulilan,Bulacan. Their musical influences include Vision of Disorder, Emperor and At the Gates, Cro-mags and Badbrains. No Peace in Silence members are AJ (vocals), Archie (guitars), Pack (bass) and Saleng (drums).

Thanks to Archie and AJ for giving their time to answer my questions with regards to the band.

Overtune: how did you guys come up with such band name?

Archie: “The idea came from an activist poem I read way back in the 90s , it read peace is not the silent suffering of the hungry, the silent weeping of the oppressed and murdered...something like that...the point is , silence does not mean peace, peace dwells in noise . The noisy celebration of freedom and joy.”

AJ: " Silence has always been the easy way out for those who choose to believe that there is nothing more that this world can give than to fit in it."

Overtune: How would you like to describe your band for those who has never heard about it?

Archie: “A melting pot of ideas, images, sounds of everything we experienced.”

AJ: "no peace in silence are stories behind our lifeless existence."

Overtune: Could you describe in brief what kind of people are involved in No Peace in Silence?

Archie: “Working class, twenty something boys barely above the poverty line.”

AJ: "We are your painside team screwicide club, coz we don't want you to kill yourself."

Overtune: What kind of feelings and reaction is your band and your lyrics supposed to suggest?

Archie: “Although the sound will be perceived by normal people as violent, dark, stupid or shallow...I can honestly say that most of our songs deal with our positive experiences of growing up and learning things, sometimes painfully but nevertheless constructive.”

AJ: "In this monument lies a collection of words built through conquering life and death. The purpose is to share because life is unfair. We refuse to believe their so called perfect society for we are all equal in this temporary. Everyone has their own weight, it just depends on how we will embrace the pain and forget all regrets. Each one of us has the right to make a difference. Never stop believing soon we will all be free."

Overtune: What are your band influences?

Archie: “As time goes by our influences go deeper. Personally, my influences go backwards, meaning I’m digging older more obscure bands. I’m into 80's music like Chameleons, Stone Roses, The Cure, Smiths, Church, James Railway Children and some heavier acts like Quicksand, Nailbomb etc., and old stuff like Neil Young, Miles Davis etc.”

AJ: "Iinfluenced by some of the early 80s hardcore punk bands minor threat, bad brains, cro-mags, etc. to the new york hardcore mosh arena monsters vod, 25 ta life, 108, no redeeming social value, helmet, etc. with some kicks from seattle based grunge pioneers nirvana, soundgarden, temple of the dog, etc. and swedish melodic death metal gods at the gates, in flames, etc. and of course, local hardcore legend dead ends just to name a few."

Overtune: How do you guys work on your music and lyrics?

Archie: “We do songs in a very weird way, we don’t have time and always in a rush coz everyone's working, so while at work I do songs in my head, like coming up with riffs just by humming in my head and tapping the office desk, come weekend or whenever everyone’s free. We make it a point to finish the new song within 1 1/2 hours, drink afterwards, curse and fight each other then head home to face another week of stupid work.”

AJ: "Each members has their own contribution. Each song is a part of the gift in each one of us."

Overtune: Alright. If given the possibility to change something in the world what would it be?

Archie: “Change the world? It’s constantly changing. There’s no need for man to interfere with how the world works, it’s when people think they have influence over destiny that things get screwed up.”

AJ: "A fucked up life in a fucked up world? We will rise. Unsubscribe from the temporary, let the blind man see."

Overtune: Any last words?

Archie: We came, we saw...we split.

AJ: "Share some light to the unborn."

Overtune: Thanks for sharing!
