D-Beat Samok Estado

Samok Estado consists of Reena (D-beat vox), Omel (D-beat Guitar), Buds (D-beat Bass) and Jiar (D-beat Drums). The band contributed 3 songs for the Volume 3 of Overtune Project including For Today and For Tomorrow, No Permit No Rally and Sinandomeng.

Overtune: let’s make it more casual, I hate so-formal-interview so first question is why SAMOK ESTADO? any story behind the text?

Samok Estado:
"samok"= means chaotic so it is CHAOTIC STATE. Buds and Jiar are the one whose responsible for the band name.

Samok Estado was our second bandname. The initial name was "kwashiorkor" but it was replaced regardless of it is being used by a sort of foreign grindcore band. kwashiorkor was used once in cubao, "Wasakin ang Digmaan 1" sometime Dec. 2006.

Overtune: how did the band start? Because I seriously love the way you play your music, do you guys have common band/people influences?

Samok Estado: The three of us, (Reena, Buds and Omel) were from PUP while Jiar is from EARIST. Buds, Omel and Jiar thought of forming a more aggressive band and decided that the vox (Reena) should be female aside from Buds (bass).

Our influences are not that quite the same but we do agree o
n one point.

Overtune: who writes/compose/arranged for your piece?

Samok Estado: Bandwork. Yes. Bandwork.

Overtune: how long have you been playing in local UG shows?

Samok Estado: Samok Estado formed in October 2006, so maybe a year and three months to be exact.

Overtune: it’s quite obvious I can’t translate your song into a more simple idea, what do you usually write or how do you compose your songs, do you focus more on political/social or just plain violence?

Samok Estado: We do not focus on one subject in making lyrics. The lyrics
depends on our society mostly on socio-political, current issues and even about our environment.

Overtune: your top 10 favorite local/international band at the moment?

Samok Estado: Consume, Disrupt, Detestation, State of Fear, Man is the Bastard, Terror, Walls of Jericho, Hatebreed, Provoked and Weezer.

Overtune: do you guys stroke any side projects or anything?

Reena - Theax, Elena Crisis
Omel - Sister Bastard
Buds - Theax
Jiar - Guerra Mundial, Sister Bastard

Overtune: I played in a band before and unfortunately it didn’t work out the way I expect it, its been pretty fuck like I was trying to pull out something you guys do (seriously), any words for bands/dudes or people who tries to be like samok estado?

Reena: Always have assessment in the band, be open and be flexible. Stay humble and be consistent. Love your lyrics and love your band.
Omel: Just play the way you want. Don't insist your kind of music to others who don't like it and the most important of having Samok Estado is the friendship we have.

Buds: Commitment, interse and time management
Jiar: Communicate with each other. Be yourself.

Overtune: its been awesome knowing bands like you exist in local shows, Any last words?

Samok Estado: Thanks Overtune for supporting Samok Estado. Let's keep the UG scene active. Support the local bands as well as foreign bands, zines, and blogs who also contributes a big part in the scene. Contact us at myspace.com/masamoknaestado.

Salamat sa lahat.

Overtune: I appreciate your time and effort to spare a minute and give us a hand to make our project more interesting, keep it up because we fucking love your style.

Samok Estado: Wow. Salamat. Keep in touch. Ye.
