OS: How are you doin today?

P4J: We’re doing great. Just wasting time with our day jobs/review and other non-sense stuff. :p

OS: Pennies 4Jane,Howd u guys come up w/ a name?

P4J: Well we just eventually came up with that name. :D That time, most of bands in naga have a “one word” kinda stuff name, so we decided to

have a different one. :p Besides when we do out of town gigs we are paid only in Penny (pamasahe lang) and almost all of the time we do it for free, up to this time though :P

OS: When and How did you guys start playing music?

P4J: We started P4J sometime between 1998 and 1999 (old school) :p But even before P4J, all of us have been playing in different bands. It was in Ateneo (in Naga) days when P4J was formed.

OS: Can u tell us your music influences before you started a punk band?

P4J: We listen to a lot of bands, Metallica, Megadeth, Ramones, Sublime, Ugly Kid Joe, Goo Goo dolls, Trixter, Pantera, Danger Danger, GNR, Poison, Sepultura, Rage Against the Machine, Jimi Hendrix, Collective Soul, Rush, I Mother Earth, Skid Row, Korn. To name a few :p

OS: Who are the people behind Pennies4Jane?

P4J: P4J was the idea of Bompo, with his cousin Pipo, who happened to live just across Bryan’s house. Bompo Pipo, Peepen, Bryan and Cyrus were the original line-up of the Band. Brent also had a stint with the band playing the drums. At first, we do a lot of Jimi Hendrix Songs, Ramones, Collective Soul, Ramones and LIVE songs, that was the early days of P4J.

Then, Cyrus, Peepen left the band and Bryan took his review in Manila. Don took over Bryan’s place in the vocals, Pipo plays the bass (from Cyrus), Meek (from Peepen) and Bompo in the guitars and Lloyd in Drums, this is when P4J decided to write and play punk songs. The first album was released independently in Naga.

Recently, Bryan is again doing the vocals with Don in Singapore, Meek in guitars (with bompo going to the military), Pipo and Lloyd still doing the bass and drums respectively. Don is planning to take his vacation this October, so he can still play/record some songs in our 2nd album.


OS: How long have u guys been playing in shows?

P4J: We’ve been playing since 1998. Up to now, we still do :p And I guess, until we’re old to piss in our pants :p

OS: How do u guys work on your songs/lyrics?

P4J: Lyrics usually start with Don and/or Bryan. As to the melodies/songs, it’s a collective effort from all of us.

OS: Since you are from Naga, are there other punk bands that you're playin with? How do u describe the scene in Naga?

P4J: There are only a few punk bands in Naga but we usually play with Footpump, Dirty knobs, Burn Again and sometimes H.U.F.U. But Naga’s underground music scene in general is at boom right now, a lot of gigs and stuff happening around the city. Some of the local radio stations are also playing songs of local indie bands in Naga.

OS: Do u guys have any favorite band/songs? how about movie? :D

P4J: I think it is much appropriate if you ask for Bands not band ;P Goldfinger, Rancid, Blink182, Pennywise, NoFx, ALL, Bad Religion, MxpX, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake… etc.. Movie? I can’t think of one, Porn movies? Does it qualify? ;p

OS: Can u tell us the things that u guys enjoy together aside from playing music?

P4J: We usually play GULP! GULP! (Beer, Beer, Beer, Hik!) :p Meek being the starter. Hahaha.

OS: Do u have any future projects?

P4J: We’re currently writing songs for our 2nd album. We already have about 6 or 7 songs, some were already recorded and in the mixing stage and about two songs still for recording. We are planning to add three or four more songs. We are hopeful that we can finish it before the year ends :p
