Cerumentric never fails to amaze me with his music. The latest release is from Indonesian netlabel Tsefula/Tsefuelha Records. Both tracks are my favorite, and these are what I need right now. You can read my first post regarding Cerumentric HERE.

I caught this band off in early 2000 mixtape which I got from a friend. After a few listens I know this band is right up in my alley. I followed their Myspace and Facebook for news, they did a few gigs and for some reason have been quiet for some time until a 3-track Demo for their upcoming album came out. Note that I haven't gotten to see any of their shows. Boo me. Okay, I might need to make a schedule to check them out one day.

Carnival Park's "This Feels like Summer" is totally sounding pop, reminds me of The Sundays on this track. "I Know the Steps to this Dance" song has an atmosphere which is open with their instruments, mellow and nostalgic. With their songs, I always feel like they will be more enjoyed while lying on your back looking up the clouds before sunset or watching the stars at night.

I think they are currently working on the album coming out soon, I'll certainly be checking their site for updates: Facebook, Bandcamp.

I've ran across the band a couple of times many years ago. It's about time I make a post about them. The Skyflakes are a Filipino American indie band from California. According to the band's Bandcamp site, the album Five Year Mission was released in March 2011 but recorded in 2006-2008. Smooth, cute and dreamy with that indie electro feel. Tricia's voice fall under that category of exquisitely beautiful voice, drawn out in the sweet cold breeze.

"Cellar Door" starts out with dreamy tune with droning guitars, lovely and it's actually my favorite track. The rest of the songs have strong tunes and melody that made me like them. I can't describe how good the music are, you've got to listen to them yourself.

P.S.
I think this is such an undeniably pretty album.

So It was a boring Sunday, on days like these, it's just nice to chill at home and hear some good tunes. Happyboy music gives you that beat in favor of texture and nostalgic atmosphere. Many of the songs are smooth and mellow, sometimes it'll give you the feeling of lonesomeness on its instrumental soundscapes, well it depends on what you feel at the moment.

I dont know too much about the band other than the man behind this goodness is also a member of the band Legarda. Check the music out, really great stuff. Visit Happyboy on Facebook.

A friend asked me, "How come you haven't heard of Legarda?" And I asked the same thing to myself. Well, I missed all the chances to watch any of their shows, and I only get to see them via facebook newsfeeds. I thank Youtube and Crapsalad Videos for this. You can hear the emotion coming out of the song, somewhat moving and might even give you goosebumps. Expect a wall of noise - some melancholy and some distorted. I was into it right away, but then again.. this kind of music is right up in my alley.

Catch indie band The Whitest Boy Alive in Manila on March 12, 2011 at Whitespace, 2314 Chino Roces Avenue Extension (Pasong Tamo), Makati. The doors will open at 8pm. The event is brought to by Intercept, the people behind the Kings of Convenience show last year.

Your Imaginary Friends' first single "Oh, Liza" Music Video Launch on February 16, 2011 in Saguijo. Together with The Camerawalls, The Gentle Isolation, Bagetsafunk, Taken by Cars and Ciudad.

I've been a periodic visitor in Lilystars-Records website and constantly playing the playlist. There's some great finds there. When I heard "Oh, Liza", I knew I heard it somewhere. So I dig up the Overtune Project Volume Indie series and found it, the name of the band back then is Pepsi Paloma Experiment.

So tag your friends along and check these guys out! ~~Wish I'm in Manila so I could watch the show. Tss.~~

The year is young and Dr. StrangeLuv is rockin out. I run across the music from this band a few times so now I decided to give them a proper post again. Thanks Ivan and Keon for sending me their album, "Sissypuss", so there's no excuse to give it a listen. Another folksy tunes and a new blend of soul into it. I sometimes wonder, how the hell do they even think of something like this? Very creative and unique. The opening tracks "Be the Boss" following with "Sarcasm,Spasm!" are an indicative of the quality of the rest of the album that has a bit more arrangement and fullness than their previous works. Dr StrangeLuv is not stopping, they have recently signed with Terno Recordings, a local independent label catering music of indiepop/rock, jazz, house, techno, and everything in between.

Sissypuss is definitely an album to take a listen to especially if you need a dose of blues and laid back feel. You go home, put the CD/MP3 on, settle back with a beer or any drink and listen.

How was your weekend? I didn't get the chance to extend my stay in Manila for the Andy Deported and The Outsourced Show. Boohoo. Anyway, It was a geeky weekend with my friends, I'm not really into comics but It was amazing to see our local comic artists' creative artworks. Oh yeah, I know this is off topic. Haha.

Okay, time to get back into it. The music that is. Dr. StrangeLuv is another project of Grandioso of Stigmatics from Laguna, Philippines. This time he's working along with his brother El Scum. This is a diy home recording, letting out some indie-folk-ish tunes. I don't know much about the band, other than the information found on their Myspace. To be honest, I'm a little bit out of league listening to their songs, at some point it would seem that you're inside a good vibe indie film or a commercial, while some songs are understated and dreamy.

I'll keep an eye out for some of their new tunes, for now you can visit them on Myspace and listen to their songs.

Okay, so I woke up this morning and I just realized how astronomically behind I've been to getting new post in Overtune. I checked on my Facebook and found My Parasol's news feed that their new song "Silver Gold Amazing" demo is now available for preview.
My Parasol is an electropop duo from Los Angeles, California. Mark and Susan's creations are incredibly nice and catchy, combined with Susan's beautiful vocals. I am looking forward to their EP, hopefully will be released in Fall 2010.

Silver Gold Amazing (Demo) by My Parasol

The Morning After hails from Batangas and formed in 2002. The band creates fantastic post-rock. The group consists of amazingly talented individuals Lorenzo Reyes, Emmanuel Panopio, Mark Nino Cordova and Mark Anthony Ascinas. In early 2002, they started out as an indie/power pop band and continuously explore the music from post-rock, shoegaze, indie, punk to metal. Until early June, they have created a stunning EP that made me sit up and take notice when I heard the tracks. I have to admit that "Through Emptiness I Rise" and "Laguerta" reminds me a lot of Explosion in the Sky and God is an Astronaut, these 2 songs blew my socks off the moment I heard them. "Chasing Lights" is catchy while "Memoirs of the Old House" stayed mellow in its great soundscape not to drown you to sleep. In other words, The Morning After's Chasing Lights EP was beautiful, it is filled with 4 great tunes that you wouldn't want to miss. I would recommend this wholeheartedly.

I happen to see this event tagged in one of my Facebook friends this morning. It's good to know Populardays is playing again. Kicking off the night includes Soft Pillow Kisses, Slumbook, Don't Boggart the Can Man, Candyaudioline, Pinstriped Rebels, Tether, Haydeys and Populardays. Me (Lito Vales) and my wife (Nerissa Vales) are filipino. We're the main members for Phillip Eno and our old band Uncletoe's Portasound. I'm also in The 88th, Oh Yeah!, and Templestay Forever; but the other members aren't filipino....I will be releasing a solo project, Hormencio, later this Spring.

OT: Hi, How are you?
PE: Doing fine.

OT: How did you begin making music?

PE: Nerissa and I started recording music when we moved to NYC in the 90s for art school.

OT: Can you tell us who are the people behind Phillip Eno?
PE: Phillip Eno started with me and Nerissa, as a side project from our old band Uncletoe's Portasound. Then our friends Ken Fernandez, Russell Hubley, and Katy Dauble joined along. Other friends contribute on a regular basis (Drew Wheeler, Phil Papas, Michael Ward and others)

OT: What is your favorite piece of production gear?
PE :I'd say my 12 string rickenbacker, but that's not really production gear, huh? How about my roland groovebox?

OT : What are your particular musical skills/abilities?
PE : I play different instruments (guitar being my main instrument), but producing music is my favorite. Nerissa also plays everything, but mainly vocals and violin.

OT: What was the inspiration behind the music?
PE :Growing up with bands like Joy Division, The Smiths, Echo & the Bunnymen, New Order, The Jazz Butcher, Primitives, Pale Saints, Stereolab... And present bands like Sambassadeur, Broadcast, etc...

OT : What might we expect from the future from Phillip Eno?
PE :This year, Phillip Eno will be releasing 2 new albums, part of our Cactus Killer label's new box set. An acoustic album of older songs, and an album with brand new material.

OT: Another questions sir, About the upcoming 2 albums, where/how can they be purchased from?

PE: The 2 upcoming albums will be available on our website for free downloading. If anybody wants an actual cd, they can order it thru our website store.

OT: can you tell us something about the Cactus Killer Radio/Products?
Do they feature other Filipino artists too?

PE: Cactus Killer Products is or label we started to house our band recordings, as well as our friends' bands. We also catalogue design, art, photo, video, and book projects under Cactus Killer Products. Cactus Killer Radio (podcast) was started to promote our music. As i continued the podcast, i started adding new, lesser known, indie music i'd find that i thought would fit with our music.
As of now, we don't have any other filipino artists on the label, but hope to in the future. I've been talking with Madness from the 7th floor about collaborating. Maybe we can release it on the label.

OT: Who were your musical influences?

PE: Joy Division, the Smiths, New Order, Echo & the Bunnymen, Bauhaus, Jazz Butcher, Stereolab, Pale Saints, House of Love, Primitives, Broadcast, Kate Bush, Throbbing Gristle, Altered Images, The Jam, The Church, Magnetic Fields, Heavenly, Pixies, etc... Factory records, 4AD, Morr Music, Postcard Records, Sarah Records, Labrador Records, C86, Tweepop, etc.

DCD: been busy with Caitlyn Bailey lately, trying to arrange things for our tour this October. Nothing much aside from that though.

Overtune: just for a minor info people, Francis is the dude responsible for dead chasing daylight project and his been a big help since VOL.1 I seriously appreciate your non stop support man!

So Francis can you give us any useful information about DCD

DCD: hi, I’m Francis and I also do vocals for Caitlyn Bailey and make ambient music under the name Anna Korsakoff. I also do work with a solo grind project called the Rise of the Fucking Cicada.

Overtune: equips, software’s and things you use to produce your own piece?

DCD: FL Studio 5, beat-up headphones and a shitty shitty PC mic.

Overtune: Major influence for DCD? I can actually compare it to GY!BE sounds kinnda ambient / experimental or something

DCD: maybe that was Anna Korsakoff, man, because I did a few songs while listening to post-rock. As for DCD, I tend to listen to a lot of stuff like Minus the Bear and My Bloody Valentine. Basically any good indie bands who know how to use delay and reverb.

Overtune: like think about this man, you’re currently working with CB plus bunch of things around, how do you manage to put a straight balance with these stuffs?

DCD: I do all of my solo projects in my free time, so my schedules with school and CB aren’t compromised in any way. I usually record songs in 5-10 minutes tops for noisy stuff like RotFC or in about 30 minutes with Anna Korsakoff and DCD.

Overtune: any future release?

DCD: I’m still not happy with the music I make under DCD, but if I get to the point where I get to establish a certain quality control with the songs I put out, maybe. All of my songs are available through me via YM or myspace. Just PM me.

Overtune: anyways man, you’re so awesome any last words?

Grace Period was formed in September 2006, with an evangelical background of each members. They sing songs of mercy, hope, grace and love. They got their name from a book "What's so amazing About Grace?" by Philip Yancey. The group is composed of siblings and cousins, Manny, Erap, Evan and Doris.

overtune: what made u guys decide to start a band?

GP: We always wanted to be in a band and we have been in different bands since highschool. But the coolest thing about being in a band with your siblings is that you are coming from the same direction creatively. We started out Grace Period to address not only the musical but also the spiritual aspect of our lives.

overtune: What bands were you listening to growing up that influenced your sound as a group?

GP: We are huge fans of New Wave, we grew up listening to Wild Swans,
the Cure, Care, and U2 to name a few. But when 90s came, we discovered Ride, Teenage Fanclub, BMX Bandits, Velocity Girl, etc. We also got acquainted with a lot lot of indiepop stuff like Club 8 and Belle and Sebastian.

Chary: Hello! This is Chary. The "other" Wentletraps. hehehe.
Thank you for this! Good day.

Overtune: I noticed that you have the same surname "Silva", how are you related with each other?

Chary: We are sisters! Ria is 6 years older than me and we share the same room at home. haha!
Ria is currently working and I'm still a college student.

Overtune: Who primarily writes the songs?

Chary: I write most of the songs but we both work the tunes because we usually start with them and then I am left to put in the words.

Overtune: Was there any musical inspirations that you drew from for the new tunes?

Chary: There weren't any in particular. Most of the time, we just play around with the guitar during idle hours and if we happen to discover a potential melody for a song, we consider it. We admit that some tunes were just accidents and funny sometimes, we don't even know if we are playing a "proper chord" or something, as long as they sound right. We feel that our songs sound better if we put reverbs and delays. We love reverbs and delays.

Overtune: What are some of your favorite bands? What bands did you grow up listening to?

Chary: Our Dad is a musician and he grew up in the sixties so we are somehow exposed to the "Oldies" genre. We admire Simon and Garfunkel, Dave Clark Five and the like. We both hail several shoegaze or shoegaze-type/related bands like The Radio Dept., My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and Mary Chain, Stone Roses. We also like Neil Halstead, Club 8, The Smiths, Belle and Sebastian, etc. Who wouldn't love them? :)

Overtune: Do u have any strangest/worst embarassing experience as a musician? what is it? :D

Chary: I think our first ever (and still our very only) live performance in February last year would count. Dale, a good friend of ours from Apple Orchard, invited us to play for "Half-steps Toward Bright Skies" gig and I think it was, not embarassing, awkward maybe, because it was the first time we played infront of more than ten people. Haha! It was just for a small audience but we were still kind of nervous being that our first gig ever although, we enjoyed it a lot. It was a fun experience and heart-warming, too when they shouted "More!" so we played another song which was not in our repertoire - a cover song by The Rentals.

Overtune: Any future record releases?

Chary: At present, no serious plans for that. Hopefully, a part of a compilation in the future. :)
